Published monthly, the Newsletter offers coaching suggestions
around the topics of: business development, financing,

represent only his ideas on creating and running your
business.

2. Executive Summary
July, 2009
Dear Executive Connection Subscriber,
This month's newsletter features: Common Sense by Glenn Beck
3. Common Sense by Glenn Beck
Did you know that the popular radio and Fox News analyst Glenn Beck was a stand-up comedian before
he became a news commentator? There are those that might think his antics and ideas are still comedic
in presentation, but his latest book is a recapitulation of Thomas Payne's seminal book in 1776.
Beck calls for a reenactment of a peaceful American revolution against Progressivism, a term defined
to characterize an overzealous and controlling government that limits individual freedom and choice.
The Progressive Party is not a party of Democrats or Republicans, but an ideology of big brother
government and redistribution of wealth. Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt were the modern day
proponents of progressivism during their presidencies, following a pattern from Alexander Hamilton,
a federalist who wanted a centralized government over the 13 original colonies (now states). Beck
posits nine principles (from page 109):
- America is good.
- I believe in God and He is the Center of my life.
- I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
- The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
- If you break the law you pay the penalty; Justice is blind and no one is above it.
- I have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but there is no
guarantee of equal results.
- I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot
force me to be charitable.
- It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
- The government works for me. I do not answer to them; they answer to me.
These nine principles can also be found on The
9-12 Project web page.
Beck's thesis is that the American
people have always been right of center, independent of
conservatism or liberalism. The country has move back
to the left of center, beginning with Jimmy Carter in
1972; Ronald Reagan moved us back to right-center, before
the two Bushes and Clinton, and now Obama have moved us
back to the left. It is refreshing to revisit Thomas Payne's
original treatise in today's economic and social climate.
Instead of political parties blaming each other for America's ills, we should take stock
of ourselves and begin to take back our country just as our Founding Fathers proposed in 1776.
No one said it better than George Washington at the end of his eight-year Presidency
who warned us about the evil of big government and the elected elite padding their own pockets
rather than truly adhering to a republican form of government that is representative of the people.
To be true to your ideals, vote Independent; party affiliation does nothing more than continue
the charade of "same ol' same ol'".
Beck attacks gun control, eminent domain, the U.S. Tax Code, lobbyists, professional politicians
with their perks and privileges, global warming, the green energy lies, government spending,
universal healthcare, sanctuary cities for illegals, not supporting a strong military. Beck ends
his discourse with Thomas Paynes' last words ...
Until independence is declared, the Continent will feel itself like a man who continues putting
off some unpleasant business from day to day, yet knows it must be done, hates to set about it,
wishes it over, and is continually haunted with the thoughts of its necessity.
Let's quit playing partisan politics and move to a politics of common sense. Our country cannot
afford anything less.
Helpful Hints:
- What did you think of the tea parties of April 15th? Do you see this as a ruse of the conservative
right or a ground swelling movement of the new "silent majority"?
- Do you agree with the adage that one is to campaign left or right of the incumbent to get
elected and then move towards center once elected? Why do Americans believe in change? Does it equal hope?
- "Don't tread on me" was the call to arms before the American Revolution. On this next July 4th,
what would you say about how middle America feels about our role in government today? What would your slogan be?
